Marketing Specialist
Join a national homelessness charity moving funders' money straight into rent paid and housing secured. Own paid, email, conversion and content. Full time, Melbourne CBD.
We Are Mobilise is Australia's direct giving platform for homelessness. Funders put money in, it moves through a national network of 50+ charity partners, and it lands as rent paid and housing secured - tracked and verified the whole way through.
It started in 2016 with two people and bags of bread, having conversations with people sleeping rough in Melbourne's CBD. It's now an ACNC-registered national charity working toward Project 10,000: housing outcomes for 10,000 people by 2030.
The role
Marketing currently sits with Noah, our founder, fitted in around running the organisation. During the Triple J Hottest 100 campaign he was planning interviews, organising shots, grabbing presenters and coordinating social content himself. Donations were up 50 per cent year on year, which is a good problem, but it is not a sustainable way for a CEO to spend a weekend.
This role takes marketing on properly. It is broad, and it is hands on. There is no team underneath you - what you set up, you run.
What you'd own
Paid media. Meta is the core at around $10k a month, alongside a $10k a month Google Ad Grant, plus TikTok, LinkedIn and Substack. All up, spend ladders to circa $20k a month and shifts depending on what's live. You'd build and launch campaigns, brief and test creative, manage budget across channels, and adjust in-account.
Email. Building, sending and reporting on campaigns, and looking after list health and segmentation.
Website and conversion. Improving how the pages people land on actually convert, and testing your way to better.
Content. Helping shape what goes out, and appearing in it. You don't need to be a content creator by trade and you'd have editing support, but you do need to be comfortable on camera.
Who this suits
A generalist who likes doing the work rather than directing it, with real depth in performance marketing. You've personally run multiple paid channels end to end without support staff, including the creative testing that goes with them. You're confident in email, you've improved a landing page or two, and you're happy to be the face of a campaign when it calls for it.
Google Ad Grants experience is useful but not essential. It isn't far off Meta, so what matters is the appetite to pick it up quickly.
What it's like here
It's fast. Priorities change, the organisation looks different every year, and the team is small enough that everyone is close to everything. That suits some people and not others. If you need a defined lane and a settled plan, this will be uncomfortable.
What keeps people here is the impact. You hear what happens to program participants, and you can see the line between what you did this week and what changed for someone. Alongside that there's exposure you wouldn't get in a normal marketing job, from studio days during the Hottest 100 to campaigns with people doing wild things across the country to support the mission.
Targets aren't set in stone before you start. You and Noah would agree what good looks like in the first months, once you've been in the accounts and can see what's actually there.
